Great Blue Heron rescue at Alaqua Animal Refuge #FreeportFL ?{WILDLIFE ADMISSION} – This fluffy Great Blue Heron was rescued from a park in Destin where he was cooling down on the splash pad. No fractures were found after… assessment, but he did have signs of head trauma which could affect his ability to fly and walk without stumbling. He’s currently on our head trauma protocol and also being treated for emaciation with supportive care. Did you know that Great Blue Herons have a down like fur on their chest that frays and creates a “powder down”. The Herons use their middle claws to collect this “powder down” and rub it on other parts of their body to protect and remove slime and fish oils. We will do everything in our power to make sure this Great Blue Heron flies high again, but we cannot do it without your help!
